FIFTY years to the day that Beatle-mania descended on Lydney, a special concert celebrating the Fab Four’s famous 1962 visit to the town was held on Friday.
The nostalgic gig by The Counterfeit Beatles was planned as part of a bid to turn around the fortunes of the beleaguered town hall.
. It was on August 31, 1962, when The Beatles, who had hits including Help! Hard Day’s Night and Get Back, made their visit to the town.
Lydney couple Des and Angela Williams, who were at the original gig aged just 19 and 17, made a trip down memory lane as they joined the full house last week.
Mrs Williams, of Templeway West, said: “There was a good atmosphere, although we didn’t dance like we did fifty years ago.
“When we saw The Beatles they were just another band and then a few months later I said ‘Oh my goodness, that was the band we went to see’.
“Getting in this tribute band to play was definitely a good idea.
“The town hall used to be the place to go and I would hope that it could be again one day
